Part 1: Harvest Auto Campaign Search Terms as Exact Match Keywords

This pulls winning search terms from your auto campaigns and graduates them to exact match—giving you better control and lower CPCs.

1. From your Scale Insights account, navigate to Automation.

2. Select Import rule > Create rule.

3. Provide details for the rule.

  • Rule name: e.g. “Import Auto to Exact

  • Search terms source: Select Auto Campaign (This tells the rule where to harvest search terms from)

  • Criteria profile: >= 2 orders

4. Select Exact as the imported match type.

5. Ensure Import unique target/keyword match is selected to avoid importing duplicated keywords.

6. Optional but recommended — Set these parameters for better cost control:

  • % of average CPC: 110%

  • Maximum bid: $2.50

7. Click Create.

8. Select the ad group(s) to apply the new import rule and click Assign.

Done. Your ad groups will now automatically harvest search terms with sales from auto campaigns and add them as exact match keywords.

Part 2: Keep Auto Campaigns Focused on Discovery

Now you need to stop your auto campaigns from re-spending on keywords you've already harvested. This keeps them focused on finding new terms.

1. From your Scale Insights account, navigate to Automation.

2. Select Negative rule > Create rule.

3. Provide the following details for the rule:

  • Name: e.g. “[Campaign] Remove Search Term with Orders”

  • Criteria profile: >= 2 orders

  • Search terms source: Select Campaign

4. In the Advanced options, select Negative Exact. (This ensures harvested search terms are added as negative exact keywords.)

5. Click Create.

6. Select the auto campaign(s) to apply the new negative rule and click Assign.

Done. You've successfully automated your auto campaigns to harvest new keyword ideas and prevent repeated spend.
